How does it work? The Badge Making Process….

A lot of people ask me “how does it work?” “what goes into making a pin badge?”

Badge making process…

Well there’s quite a loaded question!  For something so small you’d think it was easy to make right? Wrong! Pin badges are mini pieces of artwork.  Essentially these products are individually hand crafted to each persons logo or design.

All images and designs sent to us have to be recreated to adhere to the intricacy’s of the badge making process which isn’t as straight forward as you may think!  Alot of factors have to be considered such as;  is it a basic shape? (i.e. circle or square)  or does it have a cut out shape? (i.e. pointy bits and inner cuts).

Badges all start off as a clump of metal basically, then we introduce the mould tool which is a large machine which stamps your image into the metal – which is called the ‘die’ – and this then cleverly engraves your desired image onto the surface  – neat stuff!

The next process for our little pins Badge making process is to harden the metal ready for these little beauty’s to be stamped into your chosen shape. On long strips of metal they are then cut out with special die cutting tools.

Once cut out the pins are ready for the plating process. Now when you order you can choose the colour plate you prefer such as Gold, Nickel or Bronze. We also can do lots of other fab plates too like antique plates and black dye – Its up to you

Now the fun part colour infilling – I love this bit as this is where this little piece of metal really springs to life! All enamel pins are hand in-filled with colour with superb attention to detail and can be supplied in hard enamel, which gives a high end look, or if you want something a little cheaper soft enamel is the way to go.

Now we’re at the last hurdle guys and our pins are ready for cleaning and polishing we really want to make sure all of your pins are perfect so we ensure each pin goes through rigorous quality control and if any aren’t and have flaws they are rejected pronto.

Lastly we pack up, normally in plastic resealable bags ( other options available! ) ready to ship to you our lovely customers!
